AMEX - Nations Trust Payment Gateway - Completed with error

American Express is a leading credit card issuer and a credit card network in the world. Some, including myself, prefer AMEX to the likes of VISA and MasterCard for various reasons. I have experienced an odd error on three occasions in the last 3 using the Nations Trust Payment Gateway.

I enter my card number, expiry, and the four-digit security code on the card detail page. When I submit the form goes away, and an error shows "Completed With Error."

I find the message very confusing. Does "completed" mean the payment gateway charged my AMEX card? Does "error" tell they couldn't notify the vendor (ex: Keels, DOC990 etc.) that I made the payment? What do I do now?

These three errors happened on Nations Trust Payment Gateway. Nations Trust Bank is my card provider. On all three occasions, I contacted the card hotline to confirm. None of the errors had resulted in an actual charge.

In the meantime, I took the liberty to send notes to their developer team to change the error message. This error may not scare the average Joe, but I am hardly average. As a developer working with payment gateways daily, I find this error concerning. Nations trust should improve on their error messages.
