Arjuna Ranatunga For UNP Leadership - I like it!
Sri Lanka in general has an issue where people have issues letting go. This is particularly true with politicians. For many politics is like a family business. It is rare to encounter a politician that comes to politics, does their duty, and leave.
Among all such losers, Ranil Wickramasinghe is a legend. He took a party that once had a 5/6 majority in the parliament and failed to earn a single seat in the 2020 parliamentary election. Ranil is a failure. There are plenty of articles, poetry, songs and cartoons dedicated to him I need not to waste any words on him. The shameless man still wants to stay in power. Like he can do what he couldn't do in the last 50 years in politics.
This is a time almost every UNP politician think that they are a good for the leadership. People with no leadership skills wanting to be leaders of a once dominant party makes me sad.
How ever one of the contenders peek my interest. That is none other than Arjuna Ranathunga. The man who led Sri Lanka in the 1996 Cricket World Cup (CWC) and won. He showed his leadership skills in the field. I think Arjuna would be a good leader if selected. I believe he could jump start the party and recover it from this deep and dark pit the great green elephant was pushed in to by Ranil Wickramasinghe.
For the sake of the future of democracy in Sri Lanka, I hope Arjuna would be selected as the leader and the others back off and support.
PS: Karu Jayasuriya is a politician I respect tremendously. 10 years ago he would have been a good candidate, but now I believe that he is a little too old to do the job. Especially since the party is in chaos.
