The COVID19 pandemic resulted in bottlenecks in various institutions in Sri Lanka. What used to be walk-in services required prior appointments. Servies that already required appointments experienced longer wait times. One such affected service was drivers license renewal.

Due to these bottlenecks, the government extended the validity period of driers license through a gazette.

A friend of mine was presented with a late renewal fee when he attempted to renew his license. He pointed out that while his driver's license expired, he was well within the extension provided by the government. They then corrected the mistake.

It is disappointing to see this mistake happen often. When renewing your license, make sure to watch out for any fines you don't have to pay.
