Lost and Found Pigeon - Thalahena Malabe

Yesterday, 28th September 2021, around 16:00 hours, I noticed what seemed to be a fury animal lying still in my driveway. The discovery was thanks to the presence of crows, which is very rare in my property. I approached the creature and noticed that it was a deceased pigeon.

The presence of a green band on its leg made me believe that the pigeon could be a pet or an animal used to breed. The animal was decapitated, and the pigeon lost all of its internal organs due to predation.

It had just started to grizzle when I made the discovery with signs of heavy rain. I quickly dug a grave for the creature and made put it to rest. I regret not taking a photo for its humans to recognise and for closure.

I believe it came into contact with the overhead high-tension power lines and crashed on my garden. Similar accidents have occurred before with wild birds, and I dropped many at the Attidiya Bird Sanctuary for treatment and rewilding. I am sorry I wasn't there to save its life.
