Robinhood App - Sri Lanka

During the first China Wuhan Virus - COIVID19 lockdown I started diversifying my reading about various non technical topics. One such topic was regarding investment and the stock market following the purchase of books "The Intelligent Investor - Benjamin Graham" and "A Beginners Guide to the Stock Market - Matthew R Kratter" in the Amazon Kindle App on my iPad.

The book "A Beginners Guide to the Stock Market" recommended the use of Robinhood and I had heard a lot of good things about it.

So I decided to create a Robinhood account and then start with $500.00 in the US stock market. How ever my attempt ended in disappointment after I figured out that that registration in Robinhood needs a US Social Security Number.

To obtain a US SSN, you need to be either...

  1. A citizen (obviously)
  2. Studying in US with a student visa
  3. Working in US with a work visa

Since I am none of them, I am afraid Robinhood is not for me. I am increasingly feeling the need to migrate away from Sri Lanka.
