My history with SLT as a fixed-line telephone provider and internet provider extends almost 20 years. It is the only fixed-line communications provider in Sri Lanka. They usually provide a very stable internet connection, but I am experiencing a variety of service disruptions starting at about 11 AM for a week.

Internet breakdown

The disruption starts just after 11 AM. There is no fixed time, but it always begins between 11:00 AM and 11:15 AM. When this happens, the internet, in general, is unreachable, but the SLT website is reachable. I usually notice it when I get kicked out of an SSH session or a drop-off from a chat.

In general, the services come back online within 10 minutes, but the outage sometimes extends over an hour.

Every blackout consists of a few long blackouts and many smaller blackouts. Is it a result of engineers connecting the internet whenever they need to Google something? 🧐 Or is this the intern season and they are training interns on how to plug/unplug an SPF module. 🤭 I don't know 🤷‍♂️.

PeoTV - broken rewind TV

Generally, PeoTV live stream remains operational even if the internet goes offline. However, during the most prolonged blackout, PeoTV too was not available.

While the live stream remains functional, the history function (rewind TV and prior programs) stops working. This dysfunctionality is not limited to the outage and usually stays for many hours and sometimes a few days.

Telephone - no dialtone

Like with PeoTV, the telephone line generally functions even if there is an internet blackout. Again similarly, it failed during the most extended blackout experience a few days ago. If it is widespread we wouldn't know as we rarely use the phone.

Conclusion

This matter is not a widespread issue. I guess I am caught up in a maintenance/expansion operation. Why it is bugging me for over a week is however a concern. My biggest problem is that mum thinks that I am messing with the internet.

I am going to give them another week and if they don't get their act to gather I will lodge a complaint.
