Super Telephoto Drought in Sri Lanka

When the China Wuhan virus went global, I knew things were going to get out of hand. I panic bought before panic buying was cool. I even considered upgrading my vehicle. One thing i missed was getting a super-telephoto lens for my Cannon 77D some thing I was planning since late 2019.

Since the pandemic lockdowns relaxed in mid 2020 I looked around. My focus was on the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens and the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2. The Sigma is said to be a little better in stabilisation allowing few more "usable" photos in the far end of telephoto when used hand held. It is also a little new.

I have looked around the common stores in Sri Lanka with no luck. PhotoTechnica told me that they can import the Tamaron version if I pay up in full and might take months. Pay now - get it later ain't my style and thus declined.

The only option I see is to import it from the international market and get it shipped. But I am reluctant about it too. I am not comfortable paying a buck up front without shooting a photo and knowing its working and the photo is sharp. I have seen few lenses that needed calibration and I really don't want to go through it my self 🤭.

I think its good to wait until the supply chains are going to get relaxed hoping there will be greener pastures at the end of this drought.
